Propello-octahedron

This 26" piece, titled Propello-octahedron, is made of 150 CDs. It is installed at Princeton University, in the common room of the Mathematics department, Fine Hall. Spectacular rainbows change constantly as it moves because the CDs have a special holographic front surface. It looks very different in different lights.

It is based on the same polyhedron as Yin and Yang (topologically the same but slightly different geometrically). There is one CD for each of the 30 vertices, and two parallel CDs for each of the 60 edges.The CDs were provided by Katherine Cochrane of the CD-Info Company.

This sculpture is in the collection of Prof. John Horton Conway, at Fine Hall at Princeton University.
